If you’ve ever wondered where the most meditation-focused people are in the United States, our map shows you!
We wanted to answer the question, “which states are the most and least meditation-obsessed places in America?”.
To answer this question, we ran an analysis on Google trends, looking at the search trends for five keywords related to meditation:
- Meditation
- Mindfulness
- Relaxation
- Calming
- Spirituality
We gathered this data in a spreadsheet, sum-totaled each state’s search trend for each query, and came up with a “mindfulness score” for each state (see appendix 1 for raw data).
The results are displayed on the map below.
Map displaying states with the highest (lilac) and lowest (salmon) cumulative search volumes for “meditation,” “mindfulness,” “relaxation,” “calming,” and “spirituality.”
Eight of the ten most mindful states surround the great lakes and the northeast coast of the country. States with the least interest in meditation-related search queries appear in the mid-central region.
So, if you’re looking to find a community of like-minded individuals who enjoy meditation, Google trends suggest you move to the northeast coast!
